INTERSEXIONS RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS PEABODY AWARD IN NEW YORK

New York City – The wildly popular SABC1 drama InterSEXions has been honoured here as a recipient of a 2011 Peabody Award, the world’s oldest and most respected award for electronic media.

InterSEXions, produced by Curious Pictures and Ants Multimedia in partnership with Johns Hopkins Health and Education South Africa (JHHESA) and SABC Education, and funded by USAID and PEPFAR, was an instant hit with audiences when it was first broadcast in late 2010. It was rebroadcast in 2011.

Thirty-eight recipients of the 71st Annual Peabody Awards were honoured yesterday at the Waldorf Astoria Grand Ballroom, at a ceremony hosted by the University of Georgia’s Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. The winners were chosen by the Peabody Board, as the best in electronic media for 2011.

This year’s winners awards range from websites such as TED.com and Human Rights Watch to Al-Jazeera and CNN’s coverage of the Arab Spring, The Colbert Report and drama series such as Game of Thrones, Parks and Recreation, and Treme.
